SILENT-YACHTS unveiled its first and only oceangoing production yacht that was fully solar sustainable and powered by solar energy to the world back in 2009 and this year the Austrian company goes one better with a new and improved version
Conventional motor-yachts are powered by diesel- or gas-engines. Additionally they have a Generator on board to supply all household appliances. Depending on the size of the yacht, two or three diesel-engines are working for propulsion and household they also use gas for cooking.
SILENT-YACHTS offers a completely new experience meaning no generators are required..
Utilizing the power of the sun the yacht uses silent electric propulsion for unlimited range, with no noise or fumes and minimal vibration, and is self-sufficient as well as virtually maintenance-free.
Fitted with 30 high-efficiency solar panels rated for approximately 9 kilowatt-peak, the SILENT 55 uses maximum power point tracking (MPPT) solar charge regulators and lithium batteries, which provide capacity for all-night cruising, while a 15-kVA inverter provides power for all household appliances.
The 17m solar-powered ocean-going catamaran is capable of 20 knots using silent electric propulsion for unlimited range without noise or fumes and minimal vibration. Power is supplied by a pair of 250 kW e-motors, with a battery capacity of 210 kWh.
So far, one Silent 55 S2 had been produced and four units of the Silent 80 flagship are currently under construction. The 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival will take place at the Vieux Port and Port Canto from Tuesday September 10th to Sunday September 15th.
