Ever fancied spending the night aboard a luxury yacht? In most cases the answer would be YES followed quickly by but it’s just too expensive, well thanks to a peer – peer boat rental company “Beds on Board” now you can…
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last few years you will have heard of the phenomenon that is AirBnB, a peer – peer accommodation sharing site, well now boat owners have clocked on to this lucrative idea and through Beds on Board are cashing in on their empty quarters.
The concept is quite brilliant, through the Boats on Board platform boat owners can connect with people seeking accommodation offering them a room aboard their vacant vessels moored within its marina, sadly the boats do not leave their mooring, it is just accommodation agreement but staying aboard a luxury vessels isn’t something many people get to experience.
Launched in 2015 by brothers Tim and Jason Ludlow and – with the backing of multi-millionaire Sir Peter Ogden – the peer-to-peer platform has expanded exponentially with thousands of members and boats in over 66 countries with Australia & America adding most recently to its list of countries.
As a renter the process couldn’t be easier all you need to do is sign up and start searching, for boat owners it offers a unique way to offset the cost of ownership. Owners can list either a bunk, cabin or entire boat for rent and given that, boats spend 90 per cent of time sitting berthed at a marina, unused, racking up enormous berthing fees it’s a boat owners dream.
Their prices are pretty competitive too, with prices ranging from under £150 per night to thousands.
