Situated on the beautiful heart shaped Petre Island, (located in Lake Mahopac) in Carmel just one hours drive outside of New York, the 10-acre island which has been on and off the market for several years
The first house an original 1950s guesthouse comprises of three-bedroom, one-bath while the other is a four-bedroom residence that cantilevers over Lake Mahopac, an architectural masterpiece showcasing the pinnacle of design and engineering synonymous with Franck Lloyd Wright.
The 5,000sqm main house was infact built after Franck Llyod's death in 1959 erected in 2007 using architectural plans. Back in 1950, the illustrious architect was commissioned by an engineer Ahmed Chahroudi to build "a masterpiece" on the island, however Chahroudi soon realized he couldn't afford it, so Wright created a small cottage island for him instead. When Chadhroudi sold the island years later the original architect's drawings where brought to life however but not without conflict. The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, refuses to certify the house as one of Wright's as it was not built by them.
Built around a large rock the interiors of the house are warm and earthy creating a seamless union between the inside and outside offering an amazing backdrop for living and entertaining surrounded by the stunning beauty of the 593-acre lake and to ensure the daily commute back to the mainland is swift the property comes complete with a helipad although the boat ride is only minutes!
The houses & island is listed with Douglas Elliman agent Margaret Harrington for a sale price of €12,900,000
