Ute City, now known as Aspen, was a silver-mining town that was routinely attacked by the Ute Indian tribe over land issues. A booming mountain town by the late 1800s with businesses, banks, hotels and restaurants. However, the government’s on-again, off-again love affair with the precious metal brought Aspen to its knees by the 1930s when the town was on the verge of becoming a ghost town.
