PARADISE REBORN

Featured within Luxury Living Magazine..

Mauritius is celebrating 50 years of independence in 2018 – but there’s more than a half-century of reasons why it is the Indian Ocean’s ultimate getaway destination of choice..

Steeped in a sweet history, it is little wonder that one British Colony of just 790 square mile was once one of the world’s most important producers of sugar, following its independence in 1968 many of the sugar farmers switched to tourism more specifically the high-end market.

One of the first luxury brands to the island was the One&Only Le Sain Geran and while times may have changed since it opened its doors in 1975 the hotel still reigns as one of the most iconic places to stay on the island. Following an extensive £41 million renovation project the idyllic and legendary resort on the north-eastern coast has opened its doors.

Nestled peacefully in the silver white sands of its own private peninsula, under the gentle sway of thousands of coconut palms, the resort named after the ship Le Saint Géran that was shipwrecked off the shores of Mauritius in the romantic legend of the star-crossed but doomed lovers, ‘Paul et Virginie’ has long been hailed as the legendary iconic luxury retreat in Mauritius.

Offering a bespoke experience with the seclusion of what feels like a private residence, overlooking the best beach on the island, the completed renovations ensure that the resort is better than ever, once again setting a new level of ultra-luxury in Mauritius.

Brand new guest rooms and suites have been introduced as well as residences for those seeking an idyllic lifestyle on the island. All of the resort's 162 suites and signature Villa feature a private terrace or balcony facing either the ocean or cove. Every piece of hand-selected furniture along with the artful colours of Indian Ocean spices contribute to the suites' gentle ambience. The resort’s 76 inter-connecting Junior Suites and the four Family Two-Bedroom Ocean Suites provide a perfect solution for families. The two-bedroom private Villa is set amongst lush tropical gardens, offering supreme comfort, relaxed, discrete luxury, a private swimming pool, a separate entrance, and a team of butlers, a valet and chef to cater to every whim.

One&Only Le Saint Géran has always been known for its gourmet dining options and all of the restaurants have been redesigned, introducing additional outdoor dining and new dining concepts including a pan Asian experience complete with tapas and teppan bar. At the North end of the resort, guests can now enjoy a new pool, complete with a new bar and restaurant. In addition, a lounge has been introduced, creating a space for relaxation, with a bar and entertainment components.

Water is of course a central feature of the resort so it is only fitting that the boat house has been given an update, set within a sheltered lagoon providing calm waters for an array of complimentary water sports ideal for adults and children alike including water-skiing, windsurfing, stand up paddle, sailing, pedal boat, waterbike, glass bottom boat trip and kayaking among others. The lush Gary Player 9-hole golf course, located within the resort's manicured grounds, has its own clubhouse and the One&Only Golf Academy.

As part of it redevelopment the hotel has revealed a collection of one-of-a-kind experiences for guests. From vibrant culinary journeys through to thrilling deep-sea fishing experiences, guests can discover first-hand some of the planet’s most successful conservation work and take advantage of privileged access to unrivalled locations and colourful local character.

For those looking for that little bit extra guests can enjoy a unique and regal day out on the ocean, Feel Like Royalty offers a luxurious day on board a beautiful vintage boat used by Queen Elizabeth II. Built for Her Majesty in the 1950’s, the Lady Lisbeth is the perfect vessel for an elegant leisure cruise around the Mauritian lagoons and neighbouring islands. For £3,535, five guests can indulge in champagne, a picnic lunch, a private masseuse and butler, plus the skipper will stop off at the best spots for snorkelling ending the day with a sunset dinner on board.

Alternatively guests can take flight by helicopter from One&Only Le Saint Géran and have the opportunity to experience Mauritius as never before and discover the incredible Underwater Waterfall. This 30-minute ride to will allow views of this extraordinary sight just off the coast of Le Morne on the South-West of the Island, a spectacular illusion caused by silt movement on the ocean bed. Or for those looking for a thrilling perspective, The Epic Jump is a tandem skydives capturing the wild beauty of Mauritius from 10,000 feet. Experience a bird’s eye view of the island, taking in breath-taking coastal, inland and mountain scenery.

With state-of-the-art facilities, unrivalled beachfront views and incredible experiences tailored just for you, One&Only Le Saint Géran inspires extraordinary journeys for the soul and is like no other place on earth
