When you think of Christie's auction house you immediately think of old masters, fine furniture and jewels fit for royalty but in a bid to attract the modern crowd "new money" so to speak, the international auction house has launched a week aptly titled LUXURY WEEK.
Inaugurated back in 2016 in New York and Geneva, the event showcases sales items which are regularly sold throughout the year such as fine wines, handbags and jewellery but for some reason are sometimes overlooked by prospective buyers.
The first London Luxury Week kicked of on Wednesday 6th June and will run until the 13th June. Offering fashion fans and wine connoisseurs the opportunity to bid on a group of special edition auctions alongside interactive presentations. There will be three important auctions taking place at the stylish event, including Finest & Rarest Wines and Spirits on which was held on the 7th June and saw a bottle of Sullivan's Cove American Oak Cask, 1 bottle realize a sale price of £6,600
On the 12th June the Handbags & Accessories sale will take place featuring a curated selection of exotic, vintage and limited-edition handbags and accessories. The item to watch is the white Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile diamond Birkin dubbed the "ultimate Birkin Handbag" with 18k white gold and diamond hardware estimated to fetch £100,000–150,000 and a unique white & red Ardennes leather NASA Retoune Kelly 35 with gold hardwear, by Tom Sachs is one of the lots to watch at the handbag sale. Estimate: £20,000-30,000.
The Important Jewels sale takes place on 13 June where an elegant Belle Époque Diamond Tiara, circa 1905, formerly owned by HRH The Crown Princess of Yugoslavia, taken from the collection of The Princes of Orléans Braganza, is estimated to sell for an impressive £140,000-210,000.
