Looking like an updated Imperial Speeders from the Star Wars franchise the new Speeder jet powered motorcycle from Jetpack Aviation is no sci-fi gimmick its sci-fact!
Designed and built by the same company that brought us the JB-10 jetpack, Jet Pack Aviation (JPA) has now announced that it is is currently taking pre-orders on the self-stabilizing, jet-powered bike.
The Speeder builds on JPA's jet turbine expertise, and uses a cluster of four turbojet engines putting out a combined maximum thrust of 705 lbs – enough to lift the 231-lb (105 kg) airframe and a pilot up to 240 lb (109 kg) up to 15,000ft for up to a period of 20 minutes.
Originally intended for Military, Government and Commercial clients only, JPA modified the design to create the SpeederTM for the recreational market.
It's control's included a 12-inch touch screen for navigation, and a built-in two-way aviation radio system for air-to-air and air-to-ground communications.
JPA plan to build two versions of the Recreational SpeederTM: The Ultralight Version and the Experimental Category Version. The Ultralight Version (UVS) will not require a pilot’s license to operate – all training will be provided by JPA or one of our authorized training centers. The Ultralight version will be limited to carrying 5 gallons of fuel and to 60 mph flying speed.
JPA plans to produce 20 models of the Speeder for recreational use each priced at $380,000 inclusive of a flight suit and a helmet. You can reserve one for a $10,000 down payment.
